Water Environmental Research Department
The Water Environmental Research Department supports water environmental issues and integrated water management policies through four Water Environmental Research Centers, the Water Resources Research Division, and the Water Use & Management Research Division. Each Water Environmental Research Center operates water environment monitoring networks (water quality, pollution load, sediment, automatic monitoring, radioactive substances, and biological monitoring) and conducts key research tailored to each watershed.
The Han River Environmental Research Center oversees water environmental research, including water pollution accidents and algal bloom issues, water quality (algae) forecasting, and water environment assessment and prediction.
The Nakdong River Water Environmental Center focuses on the investigation and research of trace pollutants.
The Geum River Water Environmental Center conducts research on nonpoint source pollution and water circulation improvement.
The Yeongsan River Water Environment Center studies wastewater standards, hazardous water pollutants management, and optimal treatment technologies.
The Water Resources Research Division focuses on the impacts of climate change, flood and drought response, water demand management, and aquatic ecosystem health.
The Water Use & Management Research Division specializes in setting water quality standards, advances wastewater regulations, and researches drinking water, purification devices, and environmental microbiology.
Through cutting-edge research and the Integrated Water Management Information Platform, we serve as the control tower for national water environment management and public water quality services.
