To organize NIER-KIT joint workshop to promote new approach methods

The National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) and the Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 30, 2024, to establish a close, long-term cooperative framework. This agreement aims to foster mutual benefits through joint research, information sharing, and hosting workshops on the development, validation, and promotion of new approach methods (NAMs).

As a follow-up to this agreement, the "NIER-KIT Joint Workshop to Promote New Approach Methods" was held in Daejeon on July 10, 2024. Experts in NAMs from the OECD, NIER, KIT, the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (NIAS), and academia delivered presentations on various topics. These included the promotion of NAMs at both domestic and international levels, progress in the NIER-OECD project, hazard assessment using QSAR, artificial intelligence, and next-generation biotechnology, and the OECD test guideline validation and endorsement

Approximately 100 participants from industry, academia, research institutions, and government agencies attended the workshop. They engaged in discussions, exchanging questions, and sharing expertise and experiences within the field. This workshop provided a valuable opportunity for communication and exchange on key issues in NAMs research and application. It is expected to strengthen the research capabilities and collaboration among GLP institutions, industry, government agencies, and academia.
