Appointed as the Secretariat of the ‘Groundwater’ subcommittee, ISO/TC 113/SC 8.
o Rep. of Korea was selected as the secretariat of 'Groundwater' subcommittee (SC 8) under the technical committee
of Hydrometry(TC 113) in International Organization for Standardization (ISO) (Dec22, 2021)
- The 'Groundwater' subcommittee is in charge of standardization of procedures for direct measurement and related
inferential method to assess groundwater movement, availability, recharge, discharge and aquifer properties, etc.
- The secretariat is responsible for operating the committee and communicating with members. As a new secretariat, Korea plans
to revitalize our subcommittee by increasing the number of participating members, and so on.
o The national body of Korea appointed MoonSu Kim, an environmental senior researcher at National Institute of
Environmental Research (NIER),as a committee manager of the subcommittee of 'Groundwater' (Jan 1, 2022).
- Accordingly, NIER will play an important role as an international leader by establishing standardization strategy and advising
on the standard development in the groundwater field as a secretariat.
o The strengthened cooperation system through the ISO secretariat role in the field of groundwater will contribute to
enhancing national competitiveness of Korea.
